Port Jervis, NY (January 3, 2017) - Port Jervis area residents know that local access to advanced healthcare is essential. That's why they support the Bon Secours Community Hospital Foundation's efforts to expand and enhance their hospital's programs and services.
As a result of donations from patients, local residents and area businesses, the Foundation is able to disburse more than $280,000 to benefit patients receiving surgical services and cardiac care at the hospital and residents of St. Joseph's Place, the skilled nursing facility. The funds were generated through the Foundation's annual Golf Classic, direct mail appeals and other fundraising initiatives.
Bon Secours Community Hospital is using the money to upgrade medical equipment and technology. For patients requiring surgery, a new Temperature Management System in the operating rooms (OR) shows continuous temperature and humidity levels, providing up-to-date data critical for making real-time adjustments while improving the hospital's efforts to keep infection rates low. New Steris Surgical Lights in the OR provide state-of-the-art lighting. And the new Medtronic ManoScan and Pill Cam equipment enhances doctors' abilities to diagnose and treat gastro-intestinal (GI) diseases, eliminating the need for patients to travel at least one and a half hours for testing – a significant convenience for people living in the Port Jervis area. Additionally, the hospital's Electrocardiogram Department (EKG) received funds for a new bed, which will be used for outpatient EKG tests to assess the heart's electrical activity.
