open heart surgery
You may be surprised to know…not every hospital can do open heart surgery. In fact, Good Samaritan is the only hospital from the New Jersey border to Albany that provides this life-saving surgery.

emergency angioplasty and elective angioplasty

Emergency angioplasty is performed on heart attack victims, brought to the hospital, who need immediate care. The procedure helps open clogged arteries and keeps vital blood, oxygen and nutrients flowing to the heart muscle, often saving the patient’s life. In some cases, emergency angioplasty helps determine if the patient needs open heart surgery.

Elective angioplasty is similar to emergency angioplasty, except that it is performed as a preventive measure against heart attacks. It is performed on an elective basis, based on a patient’s symptoms (chest pains, EKG readings and more).

How the procedures work
The physician inserts a balloon-tipped catheter (a thin tube) into the patient’s clogged artery, inflates the balloon and stretches the artery open. The physician may also insert a stent—a wire mesh tube that expands, locks in position, and stays in the patient’s artery permanently to help keep vital blood, oxygen and nutrients flowing.

pacemaker clinic
A pacemaker is a small, battery-operated device that helps regulate a patient’s heart rhythm. It’s usually placed under a patient’s skin, just below the collar bone, and sends out electrical impulses that keep the heart beating at its proper speed.

Good Samaritan’s Pacemaker Clinic, part of the hospital’s Electrophysiology Lab, provides complete pacemaker/defibrillator analysis, service and follow-up care for patients with these implanted cardiac devices.

electrophysiology
Good Samaritan’s sophisticated Electrophysiology Lab diagnoses and treats conditions that create irregular heart rhythm—such as arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation and flutters, tachycardia and others. Our experts provide surgical and non-surgical treatments, including ablation to stabilize heart rhythm, a pacemaker clinic, internal cardiac defibrillators (ICD), cardiac resynchronization therapy and more.

advanced diagnostic imaging
Good Samaritan Hospital’s revolutionary 128-slice CT imaging technology captures incredible, detailed images of the human body with remarkable speed. In fact, the images are so clear and precise, they can actually replace the need for exploratory procedures. It’s fast, painless and non-invasive…making it one of the most powerful diagnostic tools in modern medicine.
