According to The American Cancer Society, invasive breast cancer among patients has been on the rise in recent years. To serve this growing need, Bon Secours Community Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), is now offering three-dimensional (3D) mammography for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer through advanced imaging technology and diagnostics.

3D Mammograms

3D technology safely utilizes x-ray images of the breast, from many different angles and layers, to produce images with more detail than traditional two-dimensional mammograms. Radiologists and technologists can move and enlarge the images to view any area of concern. The additional detail improves diagnostic accuracy, which reduces the chances of a patient needing to return for more testing.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsies

Bon Secours Community Hospital is also introducing a new service, stereotactic breast biopsies. During this procedure, physicians use stereo imaging from 3D mammography scans to help pinpoint a correct biopsy location. A sample of breast tissue is then removed from the area of concern using a needle, sparing healthy tissue.
