Outstanding Community Service Awards Presented to Bon Secours Community Hospital

PORT JERVIS, NY (June 9, 2016) -  On Thursday evening, June 9, the Orange/Sullivan Division Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc. (RSS) presented its Outstanding Community Service Awards to the Bon Secours Community Hospital New Directions and Mental Health Units.


RSS, whose stated mission is to enrich and empower the lives of individuals by providing services and opportunities for meaningful emotional, social, vocational and educational growth, was celebrating its 29th Annual Speakers' Recognition Dinner.


The Bon Secours Community Hospital Mental Health Unit is designed to provide a patient centered and comprehensive treatment program for individuals over age 18 who are struggling with an acute episode of mental illness.

The New Directions Program provides inpatient care for individuals who need both substance abuse and psychiatric treatment.


Both behavioral health programs are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO)


Bon Secours Community Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network has been treating mental illness for 22 years and providing rehabilition, including the New Directions detoxification program, for over 27 years.

The hospital provides behavioral health services for Port Jervis as well as the tri-state area including all of Orange County, the surrounding counties and adjacent states.


"Every day a unique individual walks through our doors," said Barbara Colon, nurse Manager, Mental Health. "They at times feel afraid, confused and hopeless. They may be sick physically or be numb and feel nothing at all. We, the Behavioral Health Team at Bon Secours Community Hospital, help these individuals by building a trusting relationship and connecting them to the right support services. We instill hope and give them an opportunity to feel value and worth, to feel respected and listened to. We let every individual feel how important they are. We assist each one in taking initiative to help themselves, by being the center of their own care. We give them an opportunity to feel normal and many feel this way for the very first time. We are the heart and soul of the mission, everyday without hesitation, with the utmost care and compassion. We give ‘Good help to those in need".
